Most blogs fail. Why?

The blogger's journey is bizarre.

The basics are there, a Google search away. There's a plethora of advice to help you get started, build momentum, promote your content, and even monetize it.

But then, as your enthusiasm begins to fade, the numbers stop growing.

Your content feels stale. You might even begin to think you're running around in circles, writing about the same topics, over and over again.

You've hit a plateau. Creatively, you're bankrupt.

The days of "build it" and they will come are long gone.

In 1999, there were 23 blogs. In 2006, there were 50 million blogs. Today, there are more than 500 million blogs.

Add to that the rise of social media, and we're no longer swimming in content. We're drowning in it.

This means that it's not enough to just publish one article after another, hoping that readers will somehow stumble upon your blog.

When competition is this tough, people are investing more time, more energy, and more resources into developing tools to become successful.

‍Every day, thousands of new blogs launch across the internet.

But the vast majority go unseen, unused, abandoned, or shut down.

The problem?

Most bloggers don't even bother to get the basics right. They call it a "hobby" and expect it to work. It never does.

You see, it's never been easier to start a blog, but it's also never been harder to find, acquire, and retain readers.

‍The good news?

Growth can be reverse-engineered.

After working with tens of bloggers and experimenting with hundreds of principles to get to the bottom of what really attracts readers, I came to the conclusion that growing a community around your blog comes down to:

 🎯 Strategy

📜 Content & the Reader Experience

⚡️ Distribution Channels

Without any one of them, growth stagnates, or worse... never happens in the first place.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but blogging is not about writing the best articles, or even having the money to invest in ads. It's not even about building and nurturing relationships with the right people.

It's about having all four of these factors working together. If you neglect one of them, the rest won't matter.

Tactics are temporary. Strategies and frameworks are forever.

Most blogging advice out there is tactical in nature.

It's actionable, short-sighted, and in the long run, it's like placing a band-aid on a gunshot wound.

I'm sorry, but in an ecosystem as oversaturated and ultra-competitive as the blogging world, tactics will fail you in the long run.

The GROW Framework

Developed by Sir John Whitmore in the 1980s, the GROW model has been essential to countless business coaches around the world, and we’re going to use it as a framework for our one-on-one coaching.

Goal – What does success look like for you?

A few things to keep in mind as you determine your goal:

  1. What is your blog's mission? What are you trying to achieve, who are you trying to help? Who is your ideal reader and how do you plan to add value to them? If you were to help them go from point A to point B, what would those points be?
  2. Your goal closely resembles your book's vision. Your vision is exactly what is going to happen once you’ve managed to help all your readers overcome their objections and fears and go from point A to point B.
  3. You have to be S.M.A.R.T. about the goal you set. To ensure that your goal is achievable, it has to be:
  4. Specific
  5. Measurable
  6. Achievable
  7. Relevant
  8. Time-bound

4. You have to clearly understand the ecosystem around your blog's main niche. This means that you have to do at least a bit of research, so you can better understand what metrics to set.

Now that you’ve set a goal, it’s time for the next stage:

Reality – Where are you now?

During this stage in the process, we will spend some time trying to understand your current situation and its relation to your goal.

This means that we will run a SWOT analysis of your platform, so you can better understand both your own strengths and weaknesses, but also all external factors that might have an impact on your platform's future growth.

Options – What Can Help You Achieve Your Goal?

Now, you can make use of the strengths and opportunities we've discovered in the previous stage.

This third stage is all about planning and strategizing a way of action that takes into account your strengths, external factors, and other opportunities. Just like in a game of chess, we will help you anticipate future movements and plan an alternative course of action.

Will – What will you do?

During this fourth and final stage, we’re no longer thinking about possible courses of action, we’re trying to come up with the best way towards us reaching our goal.

Imagine as if you’re walking on a bridge that’s been laid between your reality (where you are now) and your goal (where you want to be.)

No, seriously. This is a good visualization technique.

Now is the time to understand that you need to be committed to taking action, that you need to break down your strategy into actionable steps you can easily act upon on a daily basis.

You hear about bloggers who have amazing audiences, earn six-figure incomes, and are able to get their articles read, liked, and shared by thousands and thousands of people daily.

But... you?

Well, you're struggling. You longingly scroll through the blog feeds of top bloggers and can't help but feel that their level of success is just out of your league.

You will forever be just a hobby blogger, relegated to the overcrowded bottom of the food chain.

And honestly? You feel your passion wearing off as you write the same boring, generic articles over and over again. Another day, another average article. No comments, almost no likes.

You’re tired of compromising your dreams and goals to make them fit a heartbreaking reality. And you’re tired of always wondering how and why popular bloggers get so many readers.

But what’s the alternative?

There are over half a billion blogs out there, and there are millions of articles that go live every single day.
